Segment your Network to Strengthen your Defenses

Network segmentation is like building walls around your network; it divides the network into smaller, more manageable pieces, making it harder for an attacker to access sensitive information. By breaking up the network, each segment can be secured independently, and in the event of a breach, the damage is contained within that segment rather than spreading across the entire network.

First and foremost, improved security is a major benefit of segmenting your network. By breaking it up into smaller segments, it becomes more difficult for an attacker to move laterally and access sensitive information. Each segment can be secured independently, making it nearly impossible for an attacker to gain access to the entire network. Additionally, in the event of a security breach, segmentation helps to limit the damage done, as an attacker will be confined to the segment they’ve breached.

Scalability is another advantage of network segmentation. Managing and sustaining a network may become difficult as it grows in size. By segmenting the network, it is possible to add new devices and users without affecting the overall network. It also minimizes network traffic, making the network more responsive and efficient.

Network segmentation also aids in mitigating the consequences of disruptions. If a segment fails, it just affects that segment and not the entire network, limiting downtime and keeping key systems operational. It also decreases the possibility of a single point of failure since if a device or link fails, it will only affect the segment in which it is located.
